FAQs on Treatment
Can I do counseling or neurofeedback, or do I have to do both?
We believe that clients need to have input into their treatment plan. During our clinical evaluation, we will help you determine how we can best assist you and you can choose which method of treatment you wish to begin. Often clients will start counseling but find they need more than talk therapy and begin neurofeedback. Clients may begin neurofeedback and find underlying psychological issues are coming up and wish to talk about it with a therapist. No path to recovery looks alike, and we’ll help you each step of the way.
Who can benefit from Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback has been around for over 30 years, and is a well-studied and validated treatment option for a variety of conditions which appear to be associated with irregular brain activity. That irregular brain activity has been found in clients struggling with attention deficit disorder (ADHD) and specific learning disabilities. In addition, neurofeedback is a promising treatment for symptoms related to behavioral disorders, sleep problems, depression, migraines, anxiety, chronic pain, minor head injury and seizure disorders. As with any mental or physical health treatment, benefits are not guaranteed and is not a cure for any mental or physical health condition.
What if I am on medications before I start neurofeedback?
Many people undergo neurofeedback with the goal of reducing or eliminating the need for medications. However, do not alter your medications without consulting your physician. Should you have any physical or mental health changes, it is your responsibility to keep us informed as well as your physician.
